m/o 899 Rover Rotors 1981 Model Leyland Leopard
"A classic one owner !"
Purchased new in June 1981 by Rover Motors Cessnock it was registered as m/o 899 and a fleet no 20.
Interesting enough m/o 899 was the registeration number for its whole working life at Rovers.
It has a 1980 Leyland Chassis no 8003080 and Bodied in February 1981 with a rare ' Australine ' body manufactured by PMC Sydney.
Engine Capacity 11 litres and TARE 9900kg GVM 13206kg.
From my research there were only 12 of these step deck Semi Coach Style bodies of this type ever manufactured.
No 20 started its life at Rover Motors carrying out Charter work - with the first Charter run to the Sydney Fruit markets.
It spent most of the 1980's,1990's and early 2000 on Service runs mainly from Cessnock Depot to destinations like Newcastle,Maitland and Newcastle's BHP Steelworks and was one of Rovers main work horses during that time.
It spend time at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 carrying out Charter work.
During the last few years of it's service life it was mainly used as a School Bus with the odd Charter to functions in the Hunter Valley Vineyards.
The Livery as it is now is exactly the same as it was when new and will remain the same when it is resprayed shortly.
It was sold in 2006 for preservation and restoration and was issued with Private NSW plates AI-79-RT
--- as of the 6th January 2010 ---Historic Vehicle Plate number 39660H were issued.
No 20 is also a Vehicle in the Hunter Valley Classic Commercial Vehicle Club ( HVCCVC )
